So let us discuss my concerns. Is it me or is there a lot of stuff going on in St. Louis? People are getting murdered left and right. People are beating folks with bats and hammers. Racial tension is thick. And we have to work during this craziness. I’m not going to lie – I’m nervous. It is scary to know that the people around you are going crazy. I guess all we can do is pray about it because I refuse to let the nonsense stop my progression. I have several volunteer opportunities lined up and I have to be there. When they announced that Darren Wilson would not be charged, I had to go to work the next day. I remember looking at all the schools that were closing and all the businesses that were taking precautions the next day. I wasn’t sure if it was safe to go to work. I made it through the night. Hopefully, my guardian angels will continue to walk with me on this journey that I am on.
Earlier this week, my little sister was a part of her high school’s play. I had to go and support my number one. Here are some pictures from the play.
It was a high school production of William Shakespeare's “Romeo and Juliet”. There were some boring parts, but there were also some interesting parts. Overall it was pretty good. I really enjoyed the musical selections from this play. They played popular songs like Alicia Keys' "No One". They played Rihanna. They played a few of Rihanna's songs. They also played instrumentals that sound like they were played by an orchestra. As I said before, all of the songs were modern day. The kids were passionate about the play in their own teenage way. My favorite character/actor, besides my sister of course, would be the friar. His acting was the most believable.
But any-who, at the end of Romeo and Juliet they both commit suicide, as most of us know. Romeo thought Juliet was dead but she really was not so he offs himself. Juliet drank something that would make her sleep for 2-3 days so she didn't have to marry a man that she didn't really love. The drink was given to her by the friar that married Romeo and Juliet. Juliet realized that Romeo probably killed himself because he thought she was dead. So she does it for real—kills herself. And by the way, Romeo and Juliet are like 14-15 in the story. They were very young. This is a deep storyline, right? Ok, I said all that to say this—I didn't like how they ended this play. There are so many better ways to end Romeo and Juliet. I did like the very end. It was awesome to see all of the kids so proud of their work! They all came back out and bowed and smiled. This is how the director opted to end this production. Ok, so there was this little opening on the stage floor that Romeo was using through-out the show. Romeo died on Juliet's lap. Then Juliet jumps into the opening on the stage. I get it. It was to give off the impression that she jumped from her balcony. When they jumped into that opening on the stage they made a loud thump sound. I was like I hope they are ok. But they were lol. If I was the director I would have made it a little more graceful and romantic. Also, I don't know if they were really kissing or if it was staged. The kissing looked real. And if it was real, I'd have an issue with my sister doing that. There is too much going on out here to be kissing on somebody. I mean am I tripping or am I correct? But I did enjoy the play. Lastly, the best part of all was seeing my little sister do her thing!
My next adventure landed me at a comedy show. This show is every Wednesday at the Rustic Goat. The show is hosted by Frank Lyles on Facebook. Ok, so a HIGHLIGHT from last night's shows. Comedian Frank Lyles asked me and my girls if we have kids and our ages. We are all in our mid-late twenties and we do not have any kids. So a man across the room just couldn't believe that a table full of young women- young chocolate women at that- didn't have any kids. He just kept saying, “we lying, we lying”. I asked him, “why you hating” lol. Pardon my Ebonics. Then one of my friends asked him how many did he have and he started counting. And then the host started counting and made a song out of how many kids he possibly has lol. It was funny and he hushed up. It is probably because it was true lol. My friend and I were just laughing about that situation this morning. The feature for the night was very funny. His name is Darius Bradford. He has been on some well-known shows like BET'S Comicview. He had the room gather in a "Kum-ba-ya" circle around the stage and it did make the room look more intimate. Support this show. The tickets are five dollars and the show is Wednesday at The Rustic Goat. They start on time and let out at a decent time lol. I appreciate that! The food is good. The wings and the loaded fries are the bomb. Great comedians come through like comedian Willie C. He always comes through and rocks the mic. It’s a very chill environment. It reminds me of when I went to East Side. In my Anatomy class we would be in the back of the room gambling lol and playing spades. The teacher was older and burnt out on teaching. He didn't care.... We use to kick it lol. We should have been learning but... I feel the same emotion at this comedy show. This show is just so "down home". I'm sure everyone can use a laugh especially at a time like this. Laughter is good for the soul honey. So come out, get a drink, and show off that beautiful smile.
Last but certainly not least, I released a new song. The name of my song is #Scandal. It is the first single from my album. This song was inspired by the hit show Scandal. I took some great photos and I shot a video for the song. I am currently promoting the song. Check out my song and tell me what you think http://youtu.be/Gft9bO2whE0. Shout out to my producer Vinnis Bryant III, my photographer Alex White, and my videographer Fareed Alston. This would not be possible without you guys. And thank you to everyone who has liked or shared my project. Thank you for reading! Until next time, stay safe and never give up on your dreams.
